ABOUT US

We are a traditional, family-run wholesale bakery in Fakenham, Norfolk.

We bake and deliver fresh bread, confectionery and savouries to shops,
​​restaurants and caterers throughout Norfolk six days a week.

OUR BACKGROUND

Krusty Loaf has been a family-run business for over thirty years. Having originally started their own bakery in Chester, Paul and Jane Henry made the move to Norfolk and bought Krusty Loaf in 1987. They worked hard to establish the bakery in its current guise, and developed it into a thriving local business that has stood the test of time.

​The bakery has now entered its second generation under the leadership of Nick Henry, Paul and Jane’s eldest son. Nick's wife, Emily, and sister-in-law, Sophie have also joined the business, together with a dedicated team of bakers, office and shop staff.

Moving the bakery to Fakenham, from its original premises in Hunstanton, has enabled expansion into the wider Norfolk area and heralded a new era for the business. We have invested heavily in both our processes and our people, in order to make the bakery a more sustainable business and a better place to work. We look toward further improvement as we head into the future.
 
OUR AIM
Our ethos is simple: we are a one-stop-shop for traditional baked goods in North Norfolk. We produce consistently high quality products, backed up with an honest, friendly and reliable service that we can really be proud of.
Norfolk is a very special place to call home, and we love it here. We are proud to be part of its rich food community and we want to celebrate that; doing all we can to be a sustainable business that will support both our customers, and everybody who works for us.

OUR TEAM

NICK

Managing Director
Nick has been involved with the business in an official capacity for over ten years, but his interest in baking started much earlier, having spent every summer since he was twelve years old helping out at the bakery.

​Alongside a lifetime of hands-on experience, Nick has also attended a variety of training courses and trips; most notably those at Switzerland’s leading school for bakery and confectionery: the Richemont Centre of Excellence.

Nick has been instrumental in developing our range of speciality breads and rolls, which have gained considerable popularity with our customers in recent years. He is particularly passionate about sourdough and the development of new recipes.

STEVE

Bakery Manager
Steve has been an integral part of our team for over twenty years and has built up a huge wealth of experience at the bakery.

Originally from Ireland, he trained as a chef and spent time working in restaurants around Norfolk before joining us.

As bakery manager, Steve oversees all production in the bakery and keeps track of our considerable stock every day. He also makes most of our confectionery and savouries (which is why he is the star of many of our Instagram videos).

EMILY

Finance Manager
Emily has been involved with the bakery for many years and initially trained and worked with a well-regarded local accountancy firm before joining the family business.

Once at Krusty Loaf, she spent some time working at our Holt shop before taking over the bookkeeping and accounting for the business.

Emily has streamlined and formalised all of our financial procedures as the business has expanded, and is responsible for ensuring everybody gets paid.

SOPHIE

Brand & Design Manager
Sophie joined us in 2016, following over a decade of running her own business as a designer and author.

​She has since covered office management and accounting roles for the bakery, alongside completing a full re-brand and all of our design work.

Sophie now concentrates exclusively on the latter and is responsible for all things visual and brand-related at Krusty Loaf: from our website and packaging to POS and marketing materials.

SAM

Office Manager
Sam joined the bakery in 2017 and fast became an indispensable member of our team. With a background in finance, she started with us as a sales ledger clerk and is now Nick’s right-hand-woman.

Sam manages our office and customer accounts, and works closely with Nick on the daily administration of the bakery. She also oversees the management of our essential databases covering ingredients, nutritional information and food safety.​ She's such a multi-tasker that she can even operate the forklift.

GARRY

Assistant Bakery Manager
Garry has been with us for many years and has worked his way up through the production ranks. Alongside Steve, he helps to ensure that the bakery runs smoothly, and is in charge of bread production. Garry also manages our fleet of delivery vans.

SANDIS

Packing Manager
Sandis is one of our newest team members and has thrown himself into his role with great enthusiasm. He and his team are responsible for packing thousands of our products every day and making sure everything leaves the bakery at its best.

SIMON

Technical Manager
Simon joined us in January 2024 to deal with compliance and technical matters. With a background in food and chemistry, Simon previously worked as a consultant to an exotic fruit company in the Caribbean. He now manages our audits and health and safety, and helps with production when needed too.

GILL & LIZ

Holt Shop Co-Managers
Gill (left) joined our Holt shop in 2020 and was joined by Liz (right) a few years later. Having previously worked together elsewhere, the friends knew they made a good team and were keen to work together again.

Gill and Liz both stepped up together in autumn 2024, to share the daily management of the shop.

ELLIOT

Assistant Packing Manager
Elliot joined us in 2021 and has been a friendly presence in the bakery, and a dedicated member of our team, ever since. You are most likely to find him carefully wrapping the thousands of items we send out daily.

Elliot has also recently taken on the management of our packing shift when Sandis is away.

DAVID

Team Leader: Drivers
David first came to Krusty Loaf in 2017 and has become highly valued both as a driver, and also through helping with essential maintenance on our fleet of vans.

He now leads our team of six delivery drivers, who cover the length and breadth of Norfolk early every morning to ensure that all orders reach our customers safely.

KAREN

Production Team Leader: Sandwiches
Karen came to Krusty Loaf in 2006 and leads our extremely busy sandwich team. This part of the business has grown exponentially in recent years and her team does a really wonderful job of keeping up!

They make countless delicious sandwiches and filled rolls every day, and also add the finishing touches to our confectionery products.

Production Team Leader: Bread
With over 25 years at Krusty Loaf, Ian is our longest serving member of staff. He is also probably the fastest worker we've ever met.

As the team leader for our busy afternoon shift, he heads up the experienced and speedy group of bakers who complete our day’s production and hand over to the packing team.​
